Job Description - Lab Technician -Shawflex

Summary


The Lab Technician plays a critical role in supporting Shawflex’s Product Development and Technology teams by ensuring materials and products meet required quality, performance, and compliance standards. This role contributes directly to the successful development and validation of innovative polymer-based products through accurate laboratory testing, disciplined documentation, and strong collaboration with engineers and technologists. This is a hands-on, on-site position within a manufacturing and laboratory environment.



Key Responsibilities



  • Execute routine and non-routine laboratory testing to support product development, quality assurance, and validation initiatives.

  • Prepare test samples, operate laboratory and measurement equipment, and accurately capture and document test results.

  • Support engineers and technologists with experimental setups, trials, and investigative testing activities.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and workspaces to ensure safety, organization, and operational readiness.

  • Adhere to established laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards at all times.

  • Record, analyze, and summarize test data into clear, accurate, and concise reports.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to laboratory methods, testing processes, and operational efficiency.

  • Perform additional related duties as required to support team and business needs.



Qualifications & Experience



  • Post-secondary education in a technical school is ideal.

  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical or materials testing within a laboratory environment.

  • Experience using laboratory testing equipment, measurement tools, and data recording systems.

  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and quality standards applicable to laboratory operations.

  • Strong attention to detail with proven organization and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently while recognizing when guidance or collaboration is required.

  • Basic understanding of statistics and problem-solving methodologies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and basic data analysis tools.

  • Familiarity with polymeric materials and extrusion processes is considered an asset.



Working Conditions



  • Full-time, on-site role with standard hours; schedule may vary based on project and departmental requirements.

  • Work performed primarily in a laboratory and office setting within a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance.

The Salary Range for this position is  $57,600 to $72,000. The provided range represents the anticipated base salary and target incentive for this position. The final total compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
