Our client, in the healthcare sector is looking for a Manager, Employee and Labour Relations to join the team. This candidate actively engages in fostering collaboration between unions and management, overseeing the collective bargaining process, and advising on the interpretation and application of collective agreements. They are an integral part of the management team, contributing to strategic and operational discussions, and oversee the development of Labour Relations policies. Additionally, they handle formal dispute resolution processes and implement alternative dispute resolution principles to manage employee conflicts. This includes working with legal counsel during grievance, arbitration, and Human Rights Tribunal meetings.
Responsibilities
Play a pivotal role within the HRH negotiation team, leading the formulation of negotiation strategies and meticulously reviewing collective agreement language drafts. Ensure comprehensive documentation of negotiation proceedings.
Advise management on the implementation of negotiated contract modifications, providing educational support on these changes as needed.
Effectively coordinate various Labour-Management Committees, steering agenda preparation for management and documenting key discussions. Actively engage as a Committee member, fostering a positive union relationship.
Oversee the complaint, grievances, and arbitration processes, ensuring timely responses at each stage while providing guidance and steering in complex cases.
Offer expert counsel to Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety management on interpreting collective agreements and applying relevant legal precedents in intricate cases.
Lead termination cases and complex employee relations matters in collaboration with the Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety Specialist. Support HR Business Solutions and managers in case development, corrective measures, decision delivery, and liaison with union representatives.
Conduct and supervise employer investigations with comprehensive oversight.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years’ human resources management experience in a unionized environment, preferably in healthcare but not required
Minimum 3 years supporting leaders in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation, application of employment legislation & policies, conflict resolution, investigations, discipline, restructuring, accommodation issues, performance management, management of harassment and discrimination complaints, employee recognition and other related HR issues.
