Labourer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Labourer is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations, cleanliness, and maintenance of YORK1 transfer station facilities. This role performs general labour duties including site clean-up, waste and debris removal, grass cutting, grounds maintenance, and facility upkeep to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient operating environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with site operators and supervisors while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Site Clean-Up & Maintenance

• Perform general housekeeping and clean-up activities throughout the transfer station.

• Remove litter, debris, and waste materials from operating areas, roadways, and facility grounds.

• Maintain cleanliness around tipping floors, loading areas, fences, and customer access points.

• Assist with site organization and upkeep to ensure safe working conditions.

Grounds Maintenance

• Perform grass cutting, weed trimming, and vegetation control throughout the property.

• Maintain landscaping and exterior grounds as required.

• Assist with seasonal property maintenance, including snow removal support when required.

• Ensure roadways, walkways, and site entrances remain clean and accessible.

Operational Support

• Assist transfer station personnel with general labour duties as assigned.

• Support site inspections and identify housekeeping or maintenance issues.

• Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials when required.

• Operate hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

Health & Safety

• Follow all YORK1 safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements.

• Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Report hazards, incidents, equipment deficiencies, or unsafe conditions immediately.

• Participate in safety meetings, training, and workplace inspections as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Previous labour, construction, landscaping, waste management, or industrial experience is considered an asset.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.

• Experience operating lawn maintenance equipment and hand tools is an asset.

• Strong work ethic and commitment to safety.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

• Valid G Driver's License is considered an asset.
