Land Contracts Specialist / Senior Land Contracts Specialist

Accountabilities and Key Functions

This position is part of the Legal team and is accountable for the effective administration and lifecycle management of land agreements and related obligations. The role works closely with Project Development, Corporate Development, Finance, Operations and Accounting, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the organization in a collaborative, practical and solutions-focused way.

Key functions of this position include:

• Lead the land payment process, including coordinating payment requests, validating contractual obligations, resolving discrepancies, maintaining supporting records and ensuring landowner, property tax and other land-related payments are processed accurately and on time.


• Own the administration of contract records and obligation tracking, ensuring all key dates, payment obligations, notice periods, registration requirements and other contractual commitments are accurately maintained and proactively managed throughout the project lifecycle.


• Draft, adapt, prepare and coordinate the execution of land agreements and related documents across Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions, working with legal counsel as required to address jurisdiction-specific requirements and project needs.


• Review title commitments, certificates of title and other title-related documents, identify and escalate material issues, and prepare and coordinate title curative documents.


• Coordinate and track the registration of land interests across Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions, working with legal counsel and external service providers as required.


• Manage foreign ownership compliance requirements, including preparing and coordinating required declarations, registrations and filings, and maintaining related records in Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions.


• Represent the Land team at project meetings, identify and advance land-related action items and provide practical input on land matters in collaboration with internal stakeholders, external consultants and legal counsel.

Education

• Post-secondary education in a related field such as Land Administration, Business Administration, Real Estate, Paralegal or Law Clerk studies, or Energy Management is considered an asset.

Experience

• A minimum of three years of direct experience coordinating or administering land agreements for renewable energy projects is required. Experience supporting projects across both Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions is considered an asset.


• Experience supporting acquisition activities, including reviewing land agreements for material issues, conducting title and mineral reviews and due diligence, and preparing real property disclosure schedules, is considered an asset.
