Landfill Attendant

Our Municipal Utilities department is looking for a full-time temporary Landfill Attendant to assist with the day-to-day running of the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management.

Job Duties and Tasks:

• Assist customers with recycling and diversion materials sorting, placement in the various designated areas, and proper use of transfer station areas.
• Identification of recycled products, household hazardous waste, sorting, separation, and packaging of recycled or diverted products for transport.
• Coordinate with contractors in the transportation of materials off site for further processing.
• Assist the Recycling Coordinator in tracking, reporting, and maintaining records for the materials recycled or diverted through County supported initiatives.
• Assist in coordination, planning, and participation of County sponsored community and recycling events.
• Maintenance and cleaning of the Transfer Station, Transfer Station bins and equipment, Shelve and Share, Recycle Discovery Site, scale, landfill facilities, roads, and grounds.
• Conduct load checks for fugitive waste and ensure customers are placing materials in the proper areas.
• Educate and promote waste diversion with the facility users.
• Scale operation, heavy equipment operation (skid steer, tool cat) and customer service.
• Other duties as required.

• A valid Class 5 drivers license and clean abstract.
• Clean criminal records check.
• Computer skills (MS Office software).
• Previous landfill, transfer station, or recycling experience is an asset.
• Farm machinery and/or heavy equipment operation is an asset.
• The ability to interact with waste haulers, the public, and co-workers effectively and courteously.
• Willing and able to undertake lifting, sweeping, cleaning, and shoveling tasks as required.
• Valid or expired Landfill or Transfer Station Operator Certification are considered an asset.

Term: This is a full-time temporary role until December 31, 2025.  

Work Schedule: This full-time, temporary position entails a 40-hour work week, on a two-week rotation of shifts.

Hourly Pay Range: $33.47 to $39.37.
