This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of City Hall, 426 Brant Street, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
This position works closely with Landscape Architects and Landscape Architecture supervisors to support park development and departmental projects. The position assists with gathering information and data, preparing concept designs and detailed design drawings, cost estimates and construction drawings and details. It also helps maintain park inventory data, plans, and related records throughout the lifecycle of a project—from early planning through to completion.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include:
Assist and support the Parks Design and Construction Team.
Utilize computer applications to produce base drawings, concept designs, tender drawings, details, and cost estimates.
Complete less complex park renewal projects from conceptual design through implementation, including cost estimates, contract administration and construction supervision.
Assemble information, data and details to maintain up-to-date park plans and information for the Park Asset Management Program.
Provide technical expertise to professional staff for projects, reports and studies.
Address customer/ client inquiries on Park Development and/or Park Design and Construction interests.
Provide support for public engagement processes.
Prepare cost estimates to support the capital budget and asset management.
Receive and incorporate requirements (regulations and policies) of other departments and agencies into park projects.
Provide coverage of projects as assigned, during vacations and absences.
Requirements
You have a university degree in Landscape Architecture and registration with the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA). You also have two to four years of related professional experience in landscape architecture, including involvement in project coordination or project management. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign) and certification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are considered assets.
You have a solid foundation in technical and design skills and enjoy bringing projects to life through careful planning and organization. You work well with others and take pride in connecting with both colleagues and the public. With a keen eye for detail and a thoughtful approach to problem-solving, you help turn challenges into practical solutions.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
Additional Information
Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide 2 recent samples of an AutoCAD drawing (detailed design and/or construction) and 1 recent sample of a drawing using design software at the interview.
