In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Reporting progress, identifying risks, highlighting emerging issues and escalating to the Lead Construction Manager
  • Overseeing the Contractor’s work at Don Valley Crossing (DVC), West Don Bridge (WDB), Minton Place SOE, and Beth Nealson underpass, being the DP representative on site.
  • Maintaining high quality daily records of observations and other information gathered including site personnel, materials, equipment, work completed (installed quantities) and issues that may arise.
  • Reviewing deliverables and other submittals prepared by Contractor related to construction or construction support for Don Valley Crossing (DVC), West Don Bridge (WDB), Minton Place SOE, and Beth Nealson underpass.
  • Overseeing that the Contractor works at Don Valley Crossing (DVC), West Don Bridge (WDB), Minton Place SOE, and Beth Nealson underpass are in accordance with the contract in terms of health, safety, environment, quality, schedule, and cost performance.
  • Identifying non-conformances or other items that require addressing to benefit the project. Specific focus on Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Review construction related documentation including, means and methods and ITPs.
  • Providing input to and participating in plans and actions to address non-conformances, avoid or mitigate risks and mitigate emerging issues.
  • Engaging discipline leads for subject matter expertise with respect to Design integration and implementing direction provided by the Engineer of Record.
  • Building relationships with the Contractor site team.
  • Validating progress reports and other data prepared by the DP and Contractor against own observations and records.
  • Providing input to the DP progress reports for the works.
  • Monitor implementation of the Project quality program(s) and construction procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Contractor and Planner to plan construction schedules and reviewprograms for acceptance.
  • Coordinate interfaces between the Contractor and other interfacing projects.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
  • In addition to the above, 4 years of experience directly related to the construction of major elevated structures (long span bridge) is required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Design Bid Build (DBB) project delivery type
  • Previously held construction supervision role(s) with responsibility for construction of infrastructureof similar scope, size, and complexity to Don Valley Crossing (DVC), West Don Bridge (WDB), Minton Place SOE, and Beth Nealson underpass.
  • Technical knowledge and experience of relevant construction methods and systems including:
    • Major bridge construction over water crossings.
    • Slope stability works.
    • Cast in place segmental bridge construction.
    • Excavation and Shoring
  • Demonstrated technical writing, data management, verbal communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
  • Experience of working on infrastructure mega-project, preferably rail projects in urban areas, in the vicinity of operational rail lines. Including working knowledge of track closures processes and logistic challenges to working during track closures / possessions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the relevant Environmental, Health and Safety regulations as they relate to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the Contractor’s responsibilities contained in contract documents. Prior experience supervising and administering contractors.
