Join our dynamic team as the Lead, GIS Application Solutions and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of geospatial technology applications. We are dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and leveraging cutting-edge GIS solutions to drive efficiency and effectiveness across our enterprise.

As the Lead, GIS Application Solutions, you will lead a talented team of Geospatial Systems Analysts in the development and technical support of our Enterprise GIS business applications and workflow automation. You will be the key liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring seamless translation of business requirements into robust technical solutions.

What will you do?

  • Work collaboratively with the GIS Solutions Architect and business stakeholders to identify needs and translate them into technical requirements
  • Design and develop innovative GIS web applications, web services, workflow automation tools, and custom system integrations using various technologies
  • Document and test developed solutions to ensure functionality and user-friendliness
  • Ensure solutions adhere to best practices, coding standards, and security protocols
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management for a team of GIS Developers (i.e. Geospatial Systems Analysts)
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to GIS applications and workflows
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on how to effectively utilize GIS applications
  • Collaborate with the GIS Solutions Architect and the GIS Platform Solutions team to ensure solutions leverage a robust and reliable platform
  • Perform other related duties
Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university in Computer Science, Geomatics Engineering, Software Engineering, or related discipline and (6) or more years of relevant experience as a GIS Developer, GIS Architect, GIS System Administrator, or similar technical role with an emphasis on technical leadership on complex enterprise GIS solutions. Relevant experience where developing or supporting enterprise GIS technology was not the primary function will be considered on a proportionally reduced basis, OR
  • Post-Secondary Diploma from a recognized institution in Computer Science or related discipline and (7) or more years of relevant experience as a GIS Developer, GIS Architect, GIS System Administrator, or similar technical role with an emphasis on technical leadership on complex enterprise GIS solutions. Relevant experience where developing or supporting enterprise GIS technology was not the primary function will be considered on a proportionally reduced basis

Skills required for success:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of GIS principles, concepts, and technologies, including web-service architecture, spatial data management, analysis, and visualization
  • Understanding of software development methodologies, programming languages (e.g., C#.Net, Python), and web development frameworks (e.g., VertiGIS Studio, ArcGIS API for JavaScript)
  • Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL Server), data modeling, and SQL querying for GIS data storage and retrieval
  • Familiarity with spatial analysis techniques, including proximity analysis, spatial interpolation, network analysis, and geocoding
  • Understanding of project management principles, methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall), and tools for project planning, execution, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and industry standards for data quality, privacy, and security
  • Awareness of emerging GIS technologies, trends, and best practices to drive innovation and stay abreast of industry advancements
  • Proficiency in developing GIS web applications, web services, and workflow automation solutions using GIS development tools and programming languages
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues and challenges in GIS application development and deployment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders, facilitate collaboration, and document project requirements and specifications
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, foster teamwork, and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changing project requirements, priorities, and technologies in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy, reliability, and usability of GIS applications, data, and solutions
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities efficiently

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.

Work Environment:

  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary Range: $52.866 - $67.383 (Hourly); $110,384.210 - $140,695.700 (Annually)
