About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and growing boutique law firm in Etobicoke, is seeking a Junior Legal Assistant to support a busy personal injury practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their legal career who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in personal injury litigation, particularly tort and motor vehicle accident matters.
The successful candidate will work closely with a Personal Injury Lawyer and senior members of the team, providing day-to-day administrative and litigation support across a high-volume caseload. The role is well suited to someone who is organized, proactive, comfortable with technology, and eager to build a long-term career in personal injury law.
Key Responsibilities
Provide administrative and file management support on personal injury and tort files, including motor vehicle accident claims.
Open and maintain client files from intake through resolution.
Draft and revise routine correspondence, letters, court forms, and litigation documents using precedents.
Assist with preparation of pleadings, mediation briefs, settlement proposals, affidavits, and document productions.
Request, organize, and track medical records, expert reports, employment records, and other supporting documentation.
Maintain lawyer calendars and coordinate client meetings, discoveries, mediations, motions, and other litigation dates.
Monitor deadlines, limitation periods, and follow-up dates to ensure files continue to progress.
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, insurers, experts, healthcare providers, and court staff.
Assist with service, filing, and organization of court materials.
Support the lawyer with preparation for discoveries, mediations, motions, and settlement negotiations.
Maintain accurate electronic files and update file information using Filevine and other legal technology.
Assist with general administrative duties, including scanning, filing, document formatting, billing support, and correspondence.
Qualifications
2+ year of experience in a legal assistant, law clerk, or legal administrative role is preferred.
Previous exposure to personal injury, civil litigation, or insurance law is an asset.
Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma is preferred but not required.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Comfortable communicating directly with clients and third parties.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Filevine or other legal practice management software is an asset.
Interest in developing a career in personal injury litigation.
