Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer

Biogen is seeking an experienced Canadian attorney with a solid background in healthcare law to be the lead attorney and compliance officer providing strategic advice on commercial, company, regulatory and healthcare compliance issues affecting the marketing and sale of one or more of the company’s products and product candidates. Responsibilities include counseling on all laws applicable to pharmaceutical promotion and sales, Rx&D Code and promotional practices, risk management and mitigation and general negotiating and contracting on commercial matters and government contracting support. To advise also on all corporate matters related to operating an affiliate in Canada. Will also serve as the business’ compliance officer for matters in Canada, reporting to and a part of the global compliance program.

This Attorney & Compliance Officer position will serve as a strategic business partner to the Canadian Affiliate by providing clear legal & compliance advice and practical business-focused solutions enabling the business to achieve its objectives while preserving and protecting the company’s integrity and reputation both in the US and around the globe. A successful candidate will exhibit superior legal skills together with a proficiency for critical thinking and problem solving in a multi-functional environment.

This position has a dual report: (i) to the Head of Legal for EU+ and (ii) Head of Compliance for EU+ region. The position will be located at the company’s Canadian commercial headquarters in Mississauga, Canada with the requirement to travel from time-to-time to both the global HQ in Cambridge, MA and the regional HQ in Switzerland.

• 7+ years minimum experience in the bio/pharma life sciences department of a biotech or pharmaceutical company and 10+ years legal experience overall.

• Strong technical background in the commercialization of pharmaceutical products in Canada and glob
