We are looking to hire a Regional Lineup Editor for CBC Montreal’s weekday radio newsreader. This is a full-time permanent position.

Your role:

We break stories at CBC News. Our focus is on original journalism, finding the angles that matter to our audience, and telling stories that are rooted in our English-speaking communities in Montreal and across the province.

We are fast and accurate with breaking and developing news. Our radio news is the best in the city and the province.

In accordance with the Corporation’s Journalistic Standards and Practices, as the weekday radio newsreader, you will deliver the news on the radio, and to audiences listening live on the website or the Listen and News apps. You are an excellent broadcaster, journalist and leader. You will also make sure our digital coverage is up to date, and can vet web copy as necessary.

For reference purposes, and at the time of this posting, the AM Regional Lineup Editor shift is Monday-Friday, 4:00 am-12:00 pm in office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Line up and read the radio news on weekdays

  • Vet radio copy

  • Do interviews, pull clips and write copy so that the weekend newscasts are up-to-date

  • Present news headlines and updates in an interactive way on the morning current affairs radio show

  • Chase breaking news, when warranted

  • Assign radio and digital reporters

  • Vet digital copy

  • Be prepared to host a radio news special in the case of big breaking news

  • Pitch original story ideas and angles

  • This assignment also requires you to report for our news platforms

  • We are looking for a candidate with the following:

    A) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent

  • Five (5) years’ journalism degree or the equivalent

  • B ) Skills:

  • Extensive general knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of current events and news across the province

  • Connection to and understanding of Quebec’s diverse and underrepresented communities

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines, reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news

  • Deep desire to make the radio newscasts the best in the market

  • Strong vetting skills for radio and digital copy

  • Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills

  • Engaging on-air presence, live broadcasting

  • Thorough knowledge of logistics of an integrated, mobile-first newsroom

  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Ability to cut clips from a variety of sources and edit for radio

  • Fluency in the working language (English)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the other official language (French)

  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices

  • Must be available to work all shifts, depending on the assignment
