The School of Manufacturing and Automation provides practical and applied skills training to meet the needs of Alberta's rapidly growing manufacturing, automation, oil and gas, and service sectors. We are learner-centered and committed to delivering quality curriculum in support of student success.
The School of Manufacturing & Automation is currently recruiting for a Temporary Full-Time Machinist Instructor to join us for the upcoming Academic year. This position will appeal to innovative individuals who enjoy a challenge, seek the opportunity to share their expertise, work with motivated learners and staff, and are interested in ongoing professional development.
This position will be for a minimum 1-year contract, with the possibility of an extension.
How you'll contribute
- Preparation and presentation of Alberta, Machinist curriculum.
- Instruction of curriculum to apprentices and related Certificate or Diploma programs.
- Instruct and demonstrate course outline objectives, projects, and curriculum.
- Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
- Participation in curriculum and program reviews;
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to learners.
- Show a personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning.
- Work with fellow faculty members on joint projects and curriculum maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
The successful candidate will have a Journeyperson Machinist Certificate and an Interprovincial Red Seal accompanied by 3 - 5 years of Industry experience in the Machinist trade as a Journeyperson. Teaching experience would be considered an asset
- Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others, with a willingness to spend quality time to help students succeed.
- Comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to engagingly convey conceptual and practical course subjects to diverse students and learning styles.
- Ability to organize course concepts and materials to create an optimal learning environment.
- Possess a positive respectful attitude and desire to support team members and the Academic Chair with program improvements.
- Preference will be given to individuals who also hold an Industrial Mechanic “Millwright” Journeyperson certificate.
- Ability to adapt to situations such as unexpected workloads.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent communication skills, basic trade math, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office are also required. Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential. Previous instructional experience would be an asset but not required. A second related trade ticket is also an asset.
