Maintenance Assistant

Position Description:

A full-time position responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient operation of the organization. This role involves assisting with repairs, upkeep, and cleaning of facilities, vehicles, and outdoor spaces. Duties include general maintenance tasks, groundskeeping, trail and site upkeep, snow removal, maintaining program equipment and facilities, and supporting task management across various phases and projects of the program. This employee will be utilized across the span of Gwekwaadziwin Miikan programming as needed. This position will have a flexible schedule to meet program needs and objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Reporting to the Seven Grandfather’s Team Leader or Director of Operations in the absence of Team Leader


• Responsible for taking direction from the management team and implementing it through day-to-day operations


• Responsible for supporting program flow of operations including storage and maintenance of goods and gear; preparing and delivering gear and items for camp transitions; camp set up and tear down, site maintenance; small engine maintenance


• Responsible for supporting the delivery of equipment and materials to remote land-based camps with the safe operation of ATV’s, boats and snowmobiles.


• Responsible for the tracking and maintenance of program inventory


• Responsible for maintaining an appropriate clinical environment


• Participant and staff transportation


• Housekeeping and cleaning tasks


• Various general task management as required
  
  

Qualifications:

• Minimum requirement is completion of a relevant diploma certificate, or combination of education and relevant work experience with small engine and vehicle maintenance, property maintenance, and inventory management


• Experience in the wilderness setting


• Willing to work in the outdoor environment and remote locations


• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects


• Demonstrated professional level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)


• Valid First Aid certification (with a preference for WFA or WFR course completion)


• Preference for those with experience working with vulnerable populations


• Mature individual who can work independently with preference given to individuals living a traditional lifestyle and being on a life-long journey in traditional knowledge


• Preference given to an Individual of Anishinaabe ancestry with knowledge and understanding of the history, clan systems, protocols, etiquette, cultures, and traditions.
  
  

Requirements:

• Possesses a valid Ontario class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle


• Must demonstrate ability to operate a vehicle with a trailer


• Possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operators License


• Ability to work outside normal business hours as required


• Able to lift 50+ pounds and manage physical tasks

Salary: Starting at $44,000
