Position Overview

 

The Maintenance Lead - Mechanical at Hexion’s Edmonton facility is crucial for maintaining operational integrity and efficiency of plant machinery and equipment. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive maintenance strategies, focusing on the lifecycle management of maintenance work orders and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory bodies.

Job Responsibilities

 
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of maintenance work orders from creation, planning, scheduling, execution, to closure, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Implement systems and processes to track work orders, monitor their progress, and ensure timely completion.
  • Analyze work order data to identify trends, predict future maintenance needs, and optimize resource allocation.
  • Develop detailed maintenance plans that include preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Schedule and lead all maintenance activities, ensuring they are executed within established timelines and budget.
  • Coordinate closely with operations to minimize downtime and ensure continuous plant productivity.
  • Manage the allocation and scheduling of personnel, equipment, and materials, prioritizing according to urgency and resource availability.
  • Work in conjunction with the Purchasing department to secure all necessary maintenance parts, tools, and services are available.
  • Ensure all resources are utilized efficiently and are available as needed for maintenance tasks.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations to determine root causes of failures or safety incidents, develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence, and collaborate with the safety department and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive and effective solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance processes by leveraging feedback and performance data.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive job plan library to streamline and standardize maintenance tasks.

 

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS      

  • Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. Works closely with: 
  • Production Supervisors/Superintendent
  • Chief Steam Engineer
  • Engineering and Center of Excellence Team
  • Maintenance Associates & Contract Personnel 
  • Operations and Logistics Teams
  • Supply Chain Management/Scheduler

Minimum Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Journeyman Trade, or Technologist with a minimum of 10 years working on a plant site, showcasing significant experience in industrial maintenance and mechanical systems.
  • Proficient in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), particularly SAP, for effective maintenance management.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex maintenance projects.
  • Professional certifications in maintenance planning and scheduling, such as MMP (PEMAC), highly regarded.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to quickly develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships.
  • Well-organized, energetic, and service-oriented, with a proactive approach to solving problems and improving processes

 

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma 
  • Interprovincial Trade Certificate – in the Mechanical Trade or Technical College Diploma/Certificate equivalent required 
  • Certificates of Competency as well as any required certification must be maintained and available upon request.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be physically capable of frequent field inspections, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable and physically able to spend significant periods (25%+) in the field (job walkdowns, interaction with team to ensure quality of planning, etc.) including accessing equipment at heights, bending, and confined space entry, in all weather conditions.
  • Requires substantial on-site presence, with the role being unsuitable for remote work arrangements.
  • Must be available for on-call duty to support 24/7 operations, ensuring prompt response to urgent maintenance needs outside of normal working hours.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring a high degree of responsibility and alertness to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS / JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical: Walking, driving, standing, lifting, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.  
  • Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand motor coordination.  
  • Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.
  • Department Specific: May be required to operate (and be fully licensed to operate) a telehandler forklift, standard gas-powered forklift, aerial work platform (telescoping boom or scissor lift) or any other equipment that may be required for maintenance related tasks. All training for operation of these devices will be provided, as required, by Hexion.

If currently an employee of the Company, you must have current satisfactory work performance and in most cases, have been in your current role for 18 months.
