The Opportunity


We are looking for a Maintenance Manager for our Scarborough facility .  Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position provides strategic leadership and operational direction to the mill’s Maintenance Department to ensure asset reliability, equipment availability, and long term performance of all mill equipment and systems. Lead the development and execution of preventive, predictive, and reliability maintenance in support of the plant’s safety, quality, production, and cost objectives. Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and corporate safety standards term performance of the Mill â€‹ 


What you'll do


Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership 


Create a culture where the safety of our people and our environment stewardship are priorities and people feel valued, supported and motivated to perform. 



  • Lead the integration of advanced safety practices within maintenance operations, ensuring full regulatory compliance and alignment with corporate standards.  



  • Conduct and coach daily safety interactions with maintenance supervisors and skilled trades to reinforce critical safety behaviors. 



  • Champion SafeStart and other corporate HSE programs; monitor adherence and drive proactive hazard identification and mitigation. 



  • Perform "safety observations" to ensure specific safety rules, procedures, housekeeping, proactive accident prevention and conscious safety behaviors are adhered to and enforced   



  • Partner closely with the Joint Health and Safety Committee to resolve inquiries, track corrective actions, and ensure sustainable improvements are implemented. 


 


Team Leadership 


Create a culture where our people want to come to work, enjoy working together, and share a sense of belonging 



  • Provide leadership to Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance Superintendent, planners, engineers and trades; set clear expectations and manage performance aligned with site OGSM and our corporate performance framework. 



  • Build succession pipelines and talent development plans for critical roles within the maintenance organization. 



  • Ensure consistent application of mill policies and labor agreements, support supervisors in coaching and discipline. 



  • Ensure strategic workforce planning, including vacation scheduling and reliable coverage for all shifts 



  • Foster strong manager-employee relationships, executing strategies to boost employee engagement and morale. 



  • Build and sustain cross-functional partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Scheduling and Accounting 


 


Quality Leadership 


Create a culture focused on meeting or exceeding customer expectations for paper quality and equipment performance. 



  • Lead reliability improvement initiatives that improve product quality, machine uptime, and operational stability. 



  • Maintain strong awareness of technology advancements relevant to mill processes and reliability engineering. 



  • Partner with Project Engineering to execute upgrades and modifications that enhance quality, efficiency and safety. 


 


Cost Leadership 


Build a culture of cost awareness to enable our core value of acting like a business owner.  



  • Identify areas within the Maintenance Department where costs can be reduced and lead initiatives to realize the savings.  



  • Develop and oversee the annual maintenance budget, including labor, parts, capital projects and contracted services. 



  • Drive long term capital planning for asset replacement , equipment upgrades and reliability


 


What You Bring


Education 



  • ​​Engineering Degree, Skilled Trades certification, or equivalent technical education (Engineering preferred).​ 


Experience 



  • 10+ years in heavy industrial or manufacturing operations 

  • 7+ years leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary maintenance teams 

  • Must be familiar with heavy rotating equipment in a continuous manufacturing setting

  • Must have previous knowledge of bearings, bearing mounting and lubrication system

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Knowledge of papermaking and stock preparation equipment and processes

  • Familiar with common safety practices in the industrial field, such as lockouts, confined space entry, WHMIS, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Very good interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and leadership abilities

Hiring Range :  $148, 000 - $186,000 per year. A candidate’s experience and knowledge may be factored into the pay a candidate receives for this position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
