Job Description - Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary 


We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to oversee maintenance operations at our Calgary production plant. The successful candidate will lead the maintenance team, ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support safe and efficient plant operations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership, and organizational skills. 



Key Responsibilities 



  • Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities for mechanical systems, including gearboxes, pumps, mixing and compounding equipment, material conveyance, extruders, extrusion downstream equipment, water filtration and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. 



  • Oversee electrical maintenance, troubleshooting motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and other electrical systems. 



  • Lead automation and control system troubleshooting, including PLCs, sensors, industrial networks, and automated manufacturing systems, to maintain seamless operations. 



  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. 



  • Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) initiatives to identify and resolve recurring equipment issues and improve overall plant reliability. 



  • Coordinate with production teams to schedule maintenance work, minimizing operational disruptions and downtime. 



  • Manage spare parts inventory and ensure critical components are available to support continuous operations. 



  • Source and oversee contractors, vendors, suppliers and external service providers as needed for specialized maintenance work and collaborating with purchasing department. 



  • Assisting to Plan and execute semi-annual plant shutdowns, ensuring all work orders are completed safely, on time, and within budget. 



  • Support installation, integration, and commissioning of new technologies and equipment. 



  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety regulations, OH&S standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, WHMIS, and risk assessment protocols. 



  • Train, mentor, and develop maintenance team members, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement. 



  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports using CMMS systems and other reporting tools. 




Qualifications 



  • Dual ticket (Millwright / Electrician) considered a strong asset, OR 



  • Electromechanical Engineering Technologist, OR 



  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technologist, OR 



  • Licensed trade certification (Millwright or Electrician) is an asset 




Experience 



  • 8+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment 



  • 3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred 



  • Experience with CMMS systems (preferably eMaint) 



  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Excel and reporting tools

  • Team leadership and supervision 



  • Coaching and development of technicians 



  • Work scheduling and shift coordination 



  • Conflict resolution 



  • Strong communication with production and operations teams 



  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, and sound judgement 



  • Proven track record of promoting and building a strong safety culture 




Work Environment  



  • Plant environment 24-7, 2 shift operation.  



  • Hours: Day Shift, Monday – Friday. 



  • A fast-paced work environment with multiple, tight, and changing priorities
