Job Description - Maintenance Worker

The Tla’amin Nation is a modern, forward thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).


 


Position Summary


Job Status:         Permanent Full-Time


Job Title:            Maintenance Worker


Hours of Work:  6:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday - Friday


Worksite:            Health Building and CDRC Building

Salary:                $29.59 per hour

Internal / External Posting


 


Performs preventative maintenance, maintenance and repair duties or projects for the building, vehicles, grounds, equipment (lawn, kitchen, fire safety, furniture) and related systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, irrigation) for the Health Administration building and the Child Development & Resource Centre through a routine seasonal schedule.       


 


The successful applicant will be required to work in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement as well as the policies and benefits therein, in addition to all relevant Tla’amin Health policies and procedures. This position is open to applicants of all genders.


 


Key Responsibilities


Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the Director of Health or designate. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.


 


1. Carries out minor carpentry and other minor repairs and/or upgrades to furniture, buildings, electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment.


 



  • Prepares, paints, recovers interior and exterior buildings and other surfaces.

  • Orders, checks, and receives related supplies.


 


 2. Operates and transports using a TN Vehicle to carry out job related duties.



  • Moves, lifts, and transports related equipment, furniture, and supplies as required.

  • Orders and picks up related supplies for job tasks as required.

  • Organizes recycling drop‑offs.


 


3. Arranges for and monitors major repair and maintenance work for Tla’amin Health building and the Child
    Development Resource Centre



  • Checks safety and security equipment and arranges replacement.

  • Checks and monitors watering systems and HVAC equipment to ensure proper operation.

  • Completes minor repairs inside Health Building and Early Childhood Education building.

  • Reports deficiencies, unsafe or faulty equipment to manager(s).

  • Use hand and power tools to carry out minor maintenance work.

  • Checks and monitors exterior lighting system.


 


4. Maintains accurate records of daily tasks and routines using required forms.



  • Prepare and tracks purchase orders.

  • Records daily activities in logbook.


 


5. Performs other related duties as required to support facility and program operations.



  • Supports new Health programs and initiatives.

  • One-time requests related to the Health and CDRC buildings.

  • Performs minor gardening tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding and watering as required.


 


Qualifications



  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education

  • Building Maintenance Worker Certificate or relevant related work experience

  • Knowledge and experience of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and basic mechanical skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with general supervision

  • Ability to operate power and other tools and equipment

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, strong problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrates ability to organize work and/or carry out maintenance duties with independence

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and current acceptable drivers abstract

  • Successful Criminal Record Check

  • Maintain a Basic First Aid & CPR certificate or willingness to obtain

  • Current WHIMIS Certificate


 


Working Conditions


Work hours are 6:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Friday, with a one hour paid lunch break. Some adjustment to scheduled hours may be required based on operational needs.  This position requires physical fitness to perform duties including lifting, climbing, standing, walking, stooping, bending and reaching.



Additional Information


All employees working for Tla’amin Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
