Job Description - Manager, Alumni and Career Services

The Manager, Alumni and Career Services, reports to the Director, Client Operations. The position is responsible for building and influencing the WBF Alumni Community and supporting students with career  exploration. You will lead the success of the Alumni strategy, provide guidance to initiatives that impact our Alumni and act as the Subject Matter Expert for the organization for new initiatives that come through partners and funding.   


Key Responsibilities



Alumni Strategy & Execution 



  • Lead the design and implementation of the Alumni Strategy

  • Engage with Alumni as SMEs to support new initiatives

  • Interface with key industry partners and work closely with the External Relations and Development team to identify opportunities for Alumni including employment, upskilling and  mentorship. 



  • Monitor employment trends and adjust strategies

  • Enhance support and wrap around service delivery based on feedback from values aligned partners 



  • Engage in off-site meetings with Alumni, networking events, partners, etc.

  • Regularly research employment trends and events, tracking trends and informing ongoing improvements.    



  • Ensure tracking and recording of all necessary alumni information for internal and external purposes; report Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting



  • Collaborate with Senior Management team, on new program implementation, program opportunity briefs, and overall project and program support.  


 
Leadership 



  • Provide leadership and oversight to Alumni & Career Services department 

  • Provide information, advice and recommendations to the Director, Client Operations to support the development of Business and Strategic Plans, including supporting goals and metrics 



  • Establish/maintain operational policies & processes ensuring complete Training documentation & efficient logistics   



  • Recruit, hire and onboard staff; develop related job descriptions as required

  • Support the professional development of team members through coaching, feedback, align performance management and learning and development; facilitate cross training across teams and functional areas   



  • Establish goals and accountable measures for team members based on WBF strategic and business plans 



  • Implement & foster processes to maintain strong cross-functional communications



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Strong relationship-building skills; approachable, empathetic and a good listener. Comfortable and confident communicating with a variety of people; industry leaders, trades personnel, students and alumni. 



  • Understanding of the Alberta apprenticeship process and exposure to construction, oil & gas, and/or transportation industries. 



  • Strong process knowledge with the ability to complete root cause analysis

  • Champion solution based problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated track record of accomplishing objectives and meeting deadlines

  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal

  • Business resource and project management skills to build and monitor operational plans, address human and fiscal resource management issues 



  • Strong problem solving, negotiation and judgment skills

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation requirements (e.g., employment standards, FOIP)

  • Awareness of cultural, economic and social barriers to adult learning and employment, especially for women 



Education & Experience



  • 5+ years of progressive management experience with direct reports

  • Experience in team development, coaching and leadership

  • Experience working with construction or trades is considered an asset

  • Related postsecondary education (Degree or Diploma) in Education, Human Resources or related field  



  • Evidence of ongoing learning in a related field (HR, coaching, facilitation, teaching)

  • Experience with information management, data collection and analytics.
