Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and community-oriented Gym Manager to lead the daily operations of Johnny's Gym. The ideal candidate will be passionate about health and wellness, have strong leadership skills, and be committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all members.
The Gym Manager is accountable for the overall leadership, coordination, and efficient operation of Johnny’s Gym. This role ensures that the facility runs smoothly, safely, and in alignment with the values and wellness goals of the We'koqma'q First Nation community. The Gym Manager is responsible for fostering a positive environment that supports physical health, cultural respect, and community engagement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily operations of the gym, including staff scheduling, equipment maintenance, and cleanliness.
- Hire, train, and supervise gym staff and fitness instructors.
- Develop and implement fitness programs and community wellness initiatives.
- Manage membership services, including sign-ups, renewals, and customer service.
- Monitor and maintain safety standards and compliance with health regulations.
- Support the implementation of social, recreational and traditional fitness related activities during extended and other hours as assigned.
- Manage budgets, inventory, and purchasing of gym supplies and equipment.
- Promote the gym through community outreach and social media.
- Create a positive and safe environment in the Fitness Centre.
- Provide support to children, youth, families and individuals using the Fitness Centre, ensuring their overall safety while using the Fitness Centre or participating in Fitness Centre programming.
- Assist with general maintenance at the Fitness Centre to ensure safety and program success, such as sweeping and/or washing floors, snow removal, garbage removal, or other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate consistent ability to maintain positive working relationships with community members and colleagues.
- Provide support to the monitoring and evaluation of programs and activities.
- Answer any inquiries related to the Fitness Centre programming.
- Recruiting and coordinating Fitness Representatives and Volunteers to assist in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Fitness Centre and the programs being offered.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of client records including records management and reporting systems.
- Ensure programming links with existing Health Centre activities to ensure broad application to a variety of individuals and groups and make effective use of resources while also ensuring maximum uptake.
- Prepare monthly reports detailing activities, statistics on clients served, budget variances, progress reports and program planning for coming months’ activities.
- Adhere to all policies and guidelines in place.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of Grade 10 is required
- First Aid Certificate is mandatory, or willingness to acquire
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Experience in fitness and recreation program development, implementation and review is considered an asset
- Experience managing human and financial resources;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
