The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (OGPS), the administrative centre of graduate academic life, is dedicated to service excellence in all of its activities, partnering with academic units to: maintain academic standards and the integrity of graduate programs; attract and admit high quality students; provide funding to assist with graduate education; and assist graduate students with the successful completion of their studies.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Graduate Programs and Strategic Initiatives, the Manager, Graduate Curriculum is a key role within the OGPS, providing high quality service and advice on graduate curriculum matters to all seven Colleges. The incumbent will manage critical and ongoing processes of graduate curriculum renewal, support new graduate program development, and maintain records of academic offerings in various systems.
More specifically, the Manager is responsible for:
- Ensuring the accuracy of program, course, and graduate faculty information in the calendar, curriculum, and student information systems;
- Developing and delivering training materials and providing guidance and consultation as needed to faculty and staff undergoing curriculum renewal;
- Tracking the progress of curriculum proposals though applicable workflows and maintaining records of comments/feedback;
- Collaborating with academic units to draft, revise and enhance proposals as necessary, and ensuring that proposals move toward approval in a timely manner;
- Providing governance support to various committees, including coordinating necessary materials for member review, liaising with academic units to fulfill committee requirements, and maintaining records of committee decisions;
- Serving as a point of reference for relevant policies, standard practices and procedures; and
- Providing research assistance to the Associate Director, Director, and Assistant Vice-President, Graduate Studies (AVPGS) in support of strategic planning and graduate growth.
To be considered for this role, candidates should have:
- A master’s degree in Higher Education, Governance, Program Administration, or another relevant area; at least 4 years of related university work experience work in a professional capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships and work collaboratively with academic and administrative leaders in support of curriculum innovation and development;
- Thorough and detailed knowledge of the principles of curriculum development;
- Thorough and detailed understanding of the university systems in Ontario and Canada, including academic governance processes;
- Extensive knowledge of graduate policies and procedures;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially tact and diplomacy;
- A high degree of initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and under pressure;
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines; and
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, software, and databases; familiarity with student information systems would be an asset.
