Job Description - Manager, Housing & Support Services

Position Purpose

As a Manager, Housing & Support Services you will provide supervision and support a team approach to case planning, consistent with evidence-based practices in the fields of mental health and substance use; support your teams to manage crisis situations, conflict resolution, and risk assessments; provide coordination of the daily operations of the programs.

 

Responsibilities

Service

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the programs.
  • Provide coordination and support across teams to enhance continuity and quality of care.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
  • Oversee the maintenance of documentation, including discharge summaries and clinical notes.
  • Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.
  • Develop and implement programming in collaboration with the Director and in line with the Agency strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate to develop programming in line with evidence-informed and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain professional practice standards and any relevant reporting and licensing.
  • Oversee and complete statistics and reports on program activities and special projects where applicable.
  • Recommend, participate in the development of and manage the implementation of policies and procedures within the department.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual Operating Plan and department budget submissions.
  • Represent the Jean Tweed Centre in the community.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with funders, community partners and stakeholders as appropriate to further the Centre’s mission.
  • As required, provide after-hours emergency coverage on a rotational basis.
  • Monitor the safety, health and well-being of the clients under the program care.

 

Staff Supervision

  • Recruit, orient, train, supervise and coach program staff including ongoing supervision, performance management, and the coordination of training and development needs.
  • Participate in, and/or lead all relevant staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Formulate and schedule the work of program staff and authorize and effectively control the overtime work of such staff.
  • Facilitate team building via communication and positive working relationships with staff.
  • Supervise, or support employees to supervise student placements and volunteers.
  • Ensure that proper staffing ratios are maintained, including the addition of casual staff as needed.

 

Organizational

  • Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma- informed, women-centred and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Maintain a client service orientation including learning about/addressing client needs and concerns.
  • Work collaboratively including respecting others, sharing information, consulting and celebrating shared successes.
  • Demonstrate accountability by holding self responsible and following through on commitments.
  • Support inclusion and equity by respecting others, embracing diversity and addressing oppression.
  • Commit to continuous learning through professional development, giving and receiving constructive feedback and applying new skills.

 

                               

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in related field.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Approach to leadership consistent with organizational values.
  • Knowledge and understanding of women’s issues, particularly as they relate to women with substance use, mental health and/or gambling concerns.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving and conflict/crisis management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and collaborative working relationships with individuals and teams.
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent individual and group supervisory skills.
  • Administrative, project management and program development skills.
