Are you passionate about advancing reconciliation, strengthening Indigenous relationships, and helping shape the future of policing in Alberta?

We are seeking a Manager, Indigenous and Community Partnerships, to support Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) to lead the development of meaningful relationships and collaborative partnerships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Alberta. This role is instrumental in ensuring Indigenous perspectives, community priorities, and culturally responsive approaches help inform the development of Alberta's newest police service.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief, you will lead Indigenous engagement strategies, build trusted relationships with Indigenous governments, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, and public safety partners, and provide strategic advice on Indigenous relations, reconciliation, cultural considerations, and community-informed public safety approaches.

What You'll Do

• Build and sustain trusted relationships with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous organizations, and community partners across Alberta.


• Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous engagement and partnership strategies that support ASPS priorities and community-identified needs.


• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on Indigenous relations, community priorities, cultural considerations, reconciliation, and emerging issues.


• Support the integration of Indigenous perspectives, cultural safety, and community-informed practices into policies, programs, recruitment, training, and service delivery.


• Represent ASPS at community meetings, cultural events, advisory tables, conferences, and public engagement activities across the province.


• Support initiatives that advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and strengthen relationships between policing and Indigenous communities.

What You'll Bring

• Experience leading Indigenous relations, community engagement, reconciliation, public safety, policing, justice, social services, government relations, or related initiatives.


• Strong understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, governance systems, rights, protocols, and the impacts of colonization.


• Demonstrated success building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, governments, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.


• Experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior leaders on complex and sensitive issues.


• Exceptional communication, facilitation, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.


• A commitment to reconciliation, cultural safety, inclusion, and respectful engagement.

Qualifications

A university degree in Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Community Development, Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Law, Human Services, Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Public Relations or a related discipline with a minimum of four (4) years related experience.

Equivalent combinations of related education, training and experience may be considered.

 Assets:

• Experience in policing, public safety, government, military, emergency services, or similarly structured operational environments.


• Experience supporting organizational stand-up, transformation, or implementation initiatives.


• Experience with project management methodologies, Lean practices, process improvement, or continuous improvement approaches.


• Experience working with data, metrics, reporting, or performance tracking.


• Experience engaging with external stakeholders, communities, or government partners.

Notes

Please note that there is one (1) permanent, full-time, in-person position available.

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 36.25 hours per week.

• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License or equivalent is required.
