You support teams to do their best work, build strong partnerships, and ensure newcomers receive responsive, equitable, and high-quality settlement services. You lead with purpose, curiosity, and accountability, helping systems and people work better together.

About the Role

The Manager, Settlement Services provides strategic and operational leadership to a multidisciplinary settlement team supporting newcomers across Edmonton. This role ensures high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive service delivery while strengthening staff capacity, partnerships, and program outcomes.

As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the Manager contributes to organization-wide planning, decision-making, and change initiatives. The role balances people leadership, program oversight, and sector engagement to ensure settlement services remain responsive to newcomer needs, funder priorities, and organizational strategy.

This is a community-facing leadership role. Work takes place on-site and in the community and includes collaboration with partners, participation in sector tables, and occasional evenings or weekends. This is not a work-from-home position.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach, and support settlement staff to deliver high-quality, newcomer-centered services.

  • Provide supervision, feedback, and coaching, supporting staff through complex client situations using reflective and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Ensure programs align with funder agreements, organizational priorities, and best practices.

  • Champion equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive service delivery across settlement programs.

  • Strengthen service quality through continuous improvement, data-informed decision-making, and learning.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, funders, and system stakeholders.

  • Represent the organization at sector tables, collaborations, and community initiatives.

  • Support integrated service delivery by strengthening internal collaboration across departments.

  • Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities and implement practical solutions.

  • Contribute to organizational planning and change initiatives as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team.

  • Model adaptability, accountability, and solution-focused leadership during periods of change.

  • Participate in committees such as JHSC, Employee Engagement, or Policy Review.

  • Actively learn and apply organizational policies, safety practices, and service standards.

What It Takes

  • A people-centered leadership approach that builds trust, accountability, and psychological safety.

  • Strong communication skills, including navigating complexity, conflict, and change.

  • Confidence leading diverse teams and supporting staff growth and development.

  • Systems thinking and the ability to balance operational detail with strategic priorities.

  • Comfort using data and feedback to inform planning and improve services.

  • Strong collaboration skills across teams, partners, and systems.

  • Sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and adaptability.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and newcomer-centered practice.

  • Comfort communicating in English in a professional environment; additional languages are an asset.

What You Bring

We recognize that leadership skills are developed through a combination of education, experience, and lived practice.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in settlement, human services, or community-based programs.

  • At least two (2) years of people leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Post-secondary education in social work, human services, community development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience supporting newcomers and equity-seeking communities.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and anti-oppressive practice.

  • Experience managing publicly funded programs and accountability requirements.

  • Experience contributing to organizational or cross-departmental planning.

  • A clear Police Information Check (PIC), required as a condition of employment.

Preferred / Asset Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams through change, growth, or service redesign.

  • Experience working within complex systems or multi-partner environments.

  • Training in leadership development, coaching, or conflict resolution.
