The Manager, Teacher Education Programs (TEP) is responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of community and campus-based teacher education programs in the designated regions. The incumbent also oversees all other education-related programs and professional development initiatives for teachers and education support staff. Additionally, the incumbent is tasked with implementing Nunavut Arctic College’s commitment to the Government of Nunavut’s goal of improving education and training outcomes.

The Manager, TEP, is a key contact for program partners, including Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Regional School Operations, Nunavut Teachers’ Association, Nunavut Arctic College, Inuit organizations, the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Education, etc. The incumbent provides both academic and administrative leadership by writing proposals, planning programs, and managing budgets.
 



Responsibilities

The Manager, Teacher Education Programs’ main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•    Leads and manages teacher education programs by overseeing the planning, delivery, and evaluation of community-based and campus-based teacher education and professional development programs to ensure high-quality educational outcomes and alignment with Nunavut Arctic College priorities.
•    Provides leadership and supervision to faculty and staff by recruiting, supervising, mentoring, evaluating performance, supporting professional development, and ensuring compliance with academic and organizational policies and procedures.
•    Administers program budgets, resources, and operations by developing and managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, coordinating logistics, and ensuring the effective and efficient use of financial, human, and physical resources.
•    Supports student success and program administration by overseeing student recruitment, admissions, placement testing, academic progress, student records, and responding to student concerns and inquiries.
•    Builds and maintains strategic partnerships by collaborating with university partners, the Department of Education, Regional School Operations, District Education Authorities, and other stakeholders to support program development, delivery, reporting, and continuous improvement.
 



Qualifications

A Master of Education degree with expertise in a discipline appropriate to program offerings, combined with five (5) years of instructional experience at the elementary or secondary school level and two (2) years of supervisory, management, or teacher education experience.
    The ideal candidate will possess:
•    Knowledge of curriculum development, program planning, and evaluation of educational programs and services.
•    Knowledge of adult education principles and teacher education practices.
•    Knowledge of Nunavut, including Inuit culture, language, communities, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
•    Knowledge of human resource management, budgeting, and program administration.
•    Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
•    Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
•    Experience managing budgets and financial resources.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

As this is a term One (1) year Term, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.


•    The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
•    Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department. The authorization from the deputy head must accompany your application for your application to be considered.
•    Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position. This is only a requirement for positions that require a satisfactory criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
