This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of Burlington Transit Headquarters (3332 Harvester Road) Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective September 2027, this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Transit, this position is responsible for the management and delivery of Transit business services including budgeting and fare strategies as well as planning, and scheduling.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day supervision of a small team, including coaching, guidance and support for excellence in daily operations.
Develop monthly and yearly work plans, provide strategic direction as directed by the Horizon 2050 and the Transit 5-year business plan.
Participate in the development of Transit operating and capital budgets. Prepare reports and conduct ongoing financial analysis.
Prepare applications for senior government funding opportunities and ensure reporting of projects to senior government.
Oversee the collection and deposit of Transit revenues, including audits of fare system.
Oversee coordination of Transit contracts including advertising, transit consulting, fare systems, technology, and property access agreements.
Oversee Transit technology projects to ensure onboard systems and applications are implemented within BDS (IT) project management standards.
Monitor and review existing business processes to identify efficiencies in tools and technologies.
Oversee transit planning and scheduling to ensure transit routes and schedules are planned, implemented, and monitored.
Duties and responsibilities are inclusive, but not limited to the above.
Requirements
Completion of a University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Planning or related field.
4-7 years of related experience in government or transit operations or a combination of education and related experience.
Project management, change management, and/or Lean Six Sigma Certifications are considered an asset.
Experience and working knowledge of PRESTO would be considered an asset.
Strong leadership abilities are required to lead a small team and to progressively guide the transit department in administrative matters.
Proven ability to develop relationships internally at the City of Burlington and externally with neighboring municipalities.
Analytical, problem solving and decision making are essential for managing all facets of the current and capital budgets.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office is required.
