Job Description - Manufacturing Engineer

Description

BD Diesel Performance is hiring!

At BD Diesel Performance we're constantly striving not to be simply the best, but to be better.

That road never ends, and engenders a culture that isn't satisfied with status quo, but of constant improvement. It means supporting employees with competitive wages, health benefits, and the tools they need. It also means colleagues respecting, and supporting one another. It means better processes and better communication. Ultimately it means a better work environment and product.

Reporting to the Director of Product Development, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement in CNC machining operations through cycle time reduction, tooling optimization, fixture design, and process development. This role is a hands-on, shop floor-oriented position requiring strong technical knowledge of CNC programming, tooling, and machining processes. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with the new product engineering team to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability from the outset and serves as a primary technical resource for machinists and operators. The salary range for this role is $93,000 to $135,000.

This role is based in our Abbotsford location and this role is a fully onsite role.

Requirements
  • Lead and execute cycle time reduction efforts including CNC program revisions to change tool paths, reduce number of operations, update tooling selections, and implement workflow changes to improve throughput.
  • Identify and quantify tooling optimization opportunities; determine ROI and overall production impact, test and prove out changes, and drive decisions with data.
  • Design, machine, and assemble production fixturing for new products; redesign existing fixturing to improve quality and cycle time.
  • Partner closely with the new product engineering team during the design phase, providing feedback on design decisions to optimize cycle time, reduce scrap rates, and ensure feasible fixturing.
  • Lead hands-on prove-in of new CNC programs, making real-time adjustments to minimize machine downtime and applying experience-based troubleshooting directly on the machine.
  • Create clear, accurate work instructions for use on the shop floor by machinists and operators, detailing process workflow and setup requirements.
  • Develop critical inspection checklists based on programming, operations, and tooling used in each product to supplement standard quality checks and minimize scrap.
  • Respond to and resolve machinist challenges and troubleshoot issues on the shop floor in a timely and effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Production facility / shop floor environment.
  • Expected to assist with production as required.
  • Frequent exposure to CNC machinery, cutting fluids, and metal chips; appropriate PPE required including steel-toed footwear.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Hands-on role requiring regular presence on the shop floor alongside machinists and operators.
  • Minimal travel expected.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly proficient in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and fixture design.
  • Highly proficient in GibbsCAM for CNC programming and toolpath development.
  • Must have hands on programming, troubleshooting and prove in experience.
  • Demonstrated CNC programming experience with practical knowledge of multi-axis machining.
  • Process engineering experience in a high-mix, precision machining environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, inspection methods, and quality control practices.
  • Hands-on experience operating or programming Mazak and/or Okuma CNC machines.
  • Experience in a high-growth manufacturing environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
