GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for seasonal Materials Technicians/Technologists in our Halifax, NS office.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Educational & Experience Requirements:
Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, is considered an asset.
Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
CCIL certifications are considered an asset.
Main Duties:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:
Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.
Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings, and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations, for use by project managers and engineers.
Maintain effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
Adhere to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
Adhering to all company policies.
Other duties as required.
Position:
Seasonal positions available.
37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload).
The position is generally Monday through Friday, however successful candidates may be asked to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. The position is based in Halifax, NS, however occasional travel within the Maritimes may be required.
