Mechanical Engineer – Building Systems
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Work Model: Hybrid
Salary: $75,000–$85,000 annually
Our client is an established Canadian consulting engineering
firm providing integrated building-system design services across a diverse
range of commercial, industrial, retail, residential, and mixed-use projects.
They are looking for a Mechanical Engineer in the
early-to-intermediate stage of their career who is interested in developing
broader technical knowledge, gaining meaningful project exposure, and growing
within a supportive and collaborative engineering environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with
approximately three to five years of consulting engineering experience who is
ready to take on greater responsibility while continuing to learn from
experienced engineers and project leaders.
The Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, the
Mechanical Engineer will assist with the design, coordination, documentation,
and delivery of mechanical building systems. The position will provide exposure
to projects of varying sizes, technical requirements, and stages of
development.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting
the design of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire-protection, and other
mechanical building systems
- Performing
engineering calculations, equipment selections, and technical evaluations
- Preparing
and reviewing drawings, specifications, schedules, reports, and other
project documentation
- Using
AutoCAD and Revit to support mechanical design and interdisciplinary
coordination
- Assisting
with energy-efficient and sustainable building-system solutions
- Coordinating
with architects, electrical engineers, contractors, suppliers, and other
project stakeholders
- Reviewing
shop drawings and responding to requests for information during
construction
- Participating
in site visits, field reviews, deficiency inspections, and construction
meetings
- Assisting
with feasibility studies, building-condition assessments, and renovation
projects
- Helping
ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, client requirements,
budgets, and project schedules
- Managing
assigned tasks and smaller project components with increasing independence
- Developing
stronger client-facing, technical, and project-management capabilities
over time
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Approximately
three to five years of relevant mechanical consulting or building-systems
experience
- Registered
as an Engineer-in-Training in Ontario, eligible for registration, or
progressing toward a P.Eng. designation
- Practical
experience with HVAC and other mechanical building systems
- Familiarity
with applicable building codes, standards, and engineering practices
- Experience
with AutoCAD; Revit experience is strongly preferred
- Ability
to prepare clear and accurate technical drawings and documentation
- Strong
analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Clear
written and verbal communication skills
- Ability
to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A
collaborative attitude and genuine interest in continued professional
development
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers a strong platform for long-term career
development. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad mix of
mechanical systems and project types rather than being limited to one narrow
area of engineering.
The organization offers:
- Mentorship
from experienced engineers and project leaders
- A
clear opportunity to assume greater technical and project responsibility
- Exposure
to projects from early design through construction
- A
collaborative, approachable, and team-oriented workplace
- A
hybrid working arrangement
- Support
for professional development and progression toward a P.Eng.
- Diverse
and technically interesting project work
- Significant
potential for continued advancement as the individual’s capabilities grow
Compensation Transparency
The expected compensation range for this role is $75,000
to $85,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, qualifications,
certifications, and overall fit for the position.
