Job Description - Mechanical Shop Foreperson

 

Trotter & Morton Building Technologies is a multi-service construction company providing electrical, mechanical and metal work for a wide variety of commercial, civil and industrial building projects.

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Shop Foreperson to join our team and play a pivotal role in process development within our mechanical division to produce high quality fabricated pipe work. The ideal candidate will have a strong pipefitting and plumbing background with a strong safety record. They will be able to manage a team of 5-10 people and possess strong coordination skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement efficient shop processes and workflows in coordination with mechanical project managers and the BIM department to streamline operations and enhance productivity 
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand project requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization
  • Lead the design and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality control measures to ensure consistency and compliance with industry standards 
  • Establish and maintain clear communication channels with stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and drive continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Train shop personnel on new processes, tools, and technologies to ensure effective implementation and adherence to established procedures 
  • Monitor and evaluate shop performance metrics to identify areas for enhancement and implement corrective actions 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, nest practices, and technological advancements to incorporate innovative solutions into shop operations 

 

Required Skills 

  • Attention to detail
  • Strong and diverse pipefitting knowledge and work with a variety of pope materials and metals 
  • Organized, capable of managing multiple priorities 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams 
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • Estimation or project execution experience would be an asset
  • Plumbing code knowledge 
  • Strong experience in MS Office 
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and capacity to motivate and inspire team members towards achieving common goals 
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement 

 

Required Experience 

  • Experience in construction with a focus in mechanical operations 
  • 5-10 years experience in a similar role within the construction or manufacturing industry
  • Journeyperson certificate in Pipefitting or Plumbing

  • Travel may be required
