The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for one or more full-time permanent positions of Media Disclosure Technician. Reporting to the Body Worn Camera Coordinator, the Media Disclosure Technician will be responsible for analyzing, identifying, and redacting sensitive information from digital media evidence to mitigate safety risks and legal liability, and ensure playability of all digital media generated or received by the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS).

The Media Disclosure Technician will process audio and video evidence generated by the public and the LPS for disclosure for Federal and Provincial Court. They are responsible for vetting, and editing digital media that meets admissibility requirements for Court. This includes evidentiary disclosure for audio and video recordings of statements that are taken under oath, witness interviews, In-Car digital video, Body-Worn Camera (BWC) footage, Closed Circuit (CCTV) video and any other digital evidence.  

The Media Disclosure Technician(s) are new positions to the LPS and will be integral members of the LPS Media Disclosure Team, working under the direction of the Body Worn Camera Coordinator to ensure digital evidence is properly reviewed, redacted, and prepared for disclosure. Accurate, compliant, and professionally edited media is essential to maintaining the integrity of court proceedings. For this reason, a high level of accuracy, accountability, and technical competency is critical to the work performed by the Media Disclosure Team.

As a Media Disclosure Technician, you will:

• Examine, review, convert, and vet digital media evidence for disclosure, including BWC footage, CCTV, in‑car video, witness interviews, and other audio/video evidence.


• Apply redactions to sensitive information using Axon’s Evidence.com to ensure compliance with privacy legislation, protect investigative techniques, and meet court disclosure requirements.


• Prioritize and manage disclosure timelines, ensuring all media is processed and delivered in accordance with Federal and Provincial Court deadlines.


• Review and redact BWC footage for Access to Information Act requests, ensuring compliance with POPA, ATIA, and LPS policy.


• Document all redaction decisions and processes, maintaining accurate notes, statistics, and audit trails for potential court testimony.


• Prepare clear, well‑written documentation for Crown Prosecutors and the LPS Access & Privacy Unit outlining redaction rationale and processes used.


• Maintain accurate records of all media processed, including tracking progress, completion status, and monthly performance metrics.


• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including Crown Prosecutors, LPS officers, and the LPS Records Management Section to ensure high‑quality, court‑ready media products.


• Provide education and guidance to sworn and civilian staff, Crown Prosecutors, and Crown Assistants on media access, disclosure processes, and best practices.


• Stay current on emerging video technologies, advising the BWC Coordinator and Staff Sergeant on potential upgrades or new equipment needs.


• Handle sensitive and confidential material with a high degree of discretion and independent accountability.


• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Body Worn Camera Coordinator or Staff Sergeant i/c Support Services.

As the successful candidate, you will have:

• High School Diploma plus up to two years of post secondary education/ post secondary certificate in Justice Studies, Police Studies, Digital Media, or a related field.


• A minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant experience with reviewing, analyzing, editing or redacting digital information such as video, audio, documents, or other media is strongly preferred.


• Experience with digital evidence systems, particularly Axon Evidence.com, including video editing and redaction tools would be considered an asset


• Strong computer proficiency, including word processing, data navigation, extraction, formatting, and intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.


• Knowledge of police records management systems, preferably Niche RMS, and familiarity with LPS policies and procedures is preferred


• Understanding of policing procedures relevant to evidence handling, disclosure, and investigative processes.


• Knowledge of video and audio technologies, including capture techniques, file formats, and playback systems.


• Experience working with sensitive or confidential information, demonstrating sound judgment and independent accountability is required


• Substantial understanding of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and Access to Information Act (ATIA) would be considered an asset.


• Practical knowledge of digital evidence management, disclosure requirements, and Crown expectations.


• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation and potentially testify in court regarding disclosure processes.


• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills, with the ability to evaluate priorities and manage time‑sensitive materials.


• High attention to detail and accuracy, essential for preparing court‑ready disclosure packages.


• Ability to multitask and adapt to frequently changing priorities and directives.


• Effective relationship‑building skills, working collaboratively with LPS staff, Crown Prosecutors, and external stakeholders.


• Commitment to continuous learning, staying current with evolving legislation, technologies, and LPS procedures.

This permanent full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.

Wage:                  $39.36 per hour (2026 Interim Job Rate)

Hours:                 Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

                             (Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

7. A successful candidate will be selected and offered the position.


8. All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.

Further, LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victim’s and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our building. In addition, we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.
