The Opportunity:

We are recruiting for a MENTAL HEALTH AND JUSTICE SUPPORT COORDINATOR

• This is a contract full-time position until February 22, 2027 to fill an existing vacancy (35 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) based at 80 Waterloo Ave. Guelph.

Reporting to the Team Lead, IMPACT and Mental Health & Justice, the Support Coordinator will support individuals and their families who are involved in the Criminal Justice System and live with mental health/substance use issues. The MH&J Support Coordinator will connect clients to appropriate supports and treatments in the community. Support Coordination is provided onsite in  court, at probation offices and in the community.

Responsibilities:

• Provide assessment, short-term monitoring and support for people in the the justice system and their families including: assisting people to manage stress and mental health challenges, attending to practical needs such as finances, housing, activities of daily living, education and employment, linking to people to various community supports and resources, collaborating with community partners, and advocating with and for individuals.


• Create and implement support or treatment plans


• Develop and monitor Mental Health Diversion/Wellness plans for those approved for Mental Health Diversion 


• Attend Mental Health Court and/or Drug Treatment Court as needed


• Collaborate, consult and educate community partners to support their ability to provide treatment and/or support


• Provide crisis intervention and planning services as needed

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree/diploma in psychology, social work or a relevant health or social science field


• Minimum of three years’ experience providing community based mental health/addictions services


• Familiarity with the criminal justice system an asset


• Demonstrated assessment and crisis intervention skills


• Problem-solving ability to identify problems, prioritize issues, generate possible solutions and evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of these solutions


• Ability to identify realistic, specific goals and objectives to address issues


• In-depth knowledge of the Recovery philosophy


• Sound knowledge of community resources and services


• Experience with the mental health system and criminal justice system


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)


• Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to social and cultural diversity


• Organizational skills and the ability to adapt to competing and changing priorities


• Proficiency with MS Office, Outlook and various database software


• A valid driver’s license and own transportation, as travel is required

 CLASSIFICATION AND RATE OF PAY:  Level 5 (OPSEU) - $33.07 to $40.30 per hour
