About the Adolescent Day Program (ADP)
 
You will be part of a team that provides mental health services to teens within a day program setting. ADP works with teens who are facing serious mental health or addiction challenges to improve their social and learning skills. You will help them build on their strengths and develop new skills. Teens attend the program daily during the school year.

Job Details

Salary/Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

Status: Permanent


The Mental Health Therapist will:
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments for patients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches.
  • Formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM V-TR and/or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally appropriate treatment approaches including family therapy, individual therapy and group therapy.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational and/or therapeutic groups for adolescents and parents.
  • Carry out case management functions including: convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the youth and family (especially education, social services, justice and health).
  • Participate in the intake and discharge processes.
  • Complete written discharge summaries.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
  • Advocate on behalf of the youth and family as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent assessment and treatment skills.
  • Excellent case management skills.
  • Training and clinical experience working with youth and families  will be an asset.
  • Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge and experience facilitating the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, family interventions, Crisis Intervention.
  • Training and experience in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting the mental health of youth who identify as LGBTQ2S+.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation) or occupational therapy.
  • Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.

Working Conditions
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
