About the Role
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the success of clinical service delivery. The Mental Health Therapist will provide timely mental health assessment, treatment service options and interventions to children, adolescents and their families. They will coordinate referral and discharge transitions to programs and services within CASA and the community. They will also promote collaborative relationships with community partners. 

The Mental Health Therapist will:

• Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned children and adolescents.
• Develop a treatment plan and formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
• Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally appropriate treatment approaches.
• Facilitate and lead psychological education and therapy groups, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as dialectical behaviour therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing for clients and families.
• Make appropriate referrals to in-house contract services to inform treatment planning and diagnostic clarification.
• Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the client and family.
• Be an active and contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, focused on assessment, treatment, diagnostic formulation and referral services, including transition to community partners and services.
• Provide preceptorship for student placements.
• Engage in research and best practice.
• Comply with CASA standards and vision.
• Advocate on behalf of the youth and family as appropriate.

• Graduate degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy. A bachelor’s degree in nursing will also be considered.
• A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
• Must be a member in good standing with their respective professional association or college.
• Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
• Knowledge and experience supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
• Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: cognitive behavioural therapy, family interventions, crisis intervention, solution-focused training, DBT and motivational interviewing.
• Training and experience in dialectical behaviour therapy would be an asset.

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training, as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
