Employee Status: Rotational

The Opportunity




The Motorman is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment on the floatel alongside in Canada. Responsible to ensure the proper functioning of machinery and support the overall operations and guest experience on the floatel.



Key Responsibilities


Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:



Machinery Operation:



  • Operate and monitor machinery and systems, including engines, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.

  • Maintain proper operating parameters and optimize equipment performance.

  • Monitor fuel consumption and implement measures to maximize fuel efficiency.

  • Respond to alarms and emergencies, taking appropriate actions to prevent equipment failure or damage.


Maintenance and Repair:



  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment, such as lubrication, cleaning, and filter changes.

  • Conduct inspections to identify equipment malfunctions or deficiencies.

  • Troubleshoot machinery issues and carry out necessary repairs or replacements.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and inspections.


Safety and Compliance:



  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response activities.

  • Report safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate personnel.


Team Collaboration:



  • Work closely with the engineering team to support maintenance activities and achieve operational goals.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding work progress and requirements.

  • Assist other engineering personnel as needed in carrying out maintenance or repair tasks.

  • Collaborate with other departments to address equipment-related issues and provide technical assistance.


Documentation and Reporting:



  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

  • Report any equipment malfunctions or deficiencies to the engineering department.

  • Follow established reporting procedures for incidents, accidents, and near misses. 


Qualifications



  • 1-2 years of previous experience as a Motorman or in a similar role within the maritime industry, preferably onboard a cruise ship or other passenger vessel

  • STCW Reg. III/4 rating forming part of a watch in the engine room 

  • STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training, and instruction for all seafarers

  • STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats

  • STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers

  • STCW Crowd management training

  • Basic knowledge of engine operations, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.

  • Understanding of safety regulations and procedures in a maritime or offshore environment.

  • Fluent communication in English

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment, with prior notice


Working Conditions



  • Constant standing and walking throughout the shift 

  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs 

  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting 

  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
