Job Description - NCSY Vancouver City Director

NCSY, a division of the Orthodox Union, connects with Jewish teens through innovative, cutting-edge social and recreational programs to develop a positive Jewish identity. NCSY Inspires Jewish teens and their connection to Israel through informal Jewish education, retreats and summer programs. NCSY Empowers teens through leadership development and guidance to become passionately committed leaders of the Jewish community and instruments for positive change and renewal. NCSY is the premier organization dedicated to connect, inspire and empower Jewish teens and encourage passionate Judaism through Torah and Tradition.

The Orthodox Union (OU) is the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol, ? , is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products.

Position Summary:

The Vancouver City Director will achieve Kiruv and programmatic excellence by closely consulting with the Regional Director and Community Partners. This involves overseeing and supporting the implementation and execution of annual and ongoing formal and informal education programs, including holiday and Shabbat events, Shabbatons, Learn and Earn, as well as social events, among others. The City Director will support Program staff regularly, ensuring communication between all parties; work with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of programs and Shabbatons; and coordinate monthly holiday programs

Duties and Responsibilities:

PROGRAMS

Shabbatons: Local and Regional

  • Oversee and execute 1 regional Shabbaton onsite with Kiruv team
  • Oversee and execute 2 local Shabbatons
  • Create and run a once-a-month family program for NCSY families
  • Host teens/parents for Shabbat/Yom Tov meals and/or Onegs at home once a month

JSU clubs and Torah High School

• Run 2 weekly JSU clubs in local public or private schools
• Recruit and develop appropriate club Presidents

Learn N Earn/Lunch N Learn

• Run a weekly Learn N' Earn/Latte N' Learn program for teens
• Run a weekly Lunch N' Learn
• Learn with a minimum of 10 students a week

Live2Give – Community Service Programming

• Oversee and run the Live2give program
• Run one community service program once a month

COLLABORATION WITH SCHARA TZEDECK

• Maintain a close relationship with Schara Tzedeck Shul
• Run and maintain a teen - led, NCSY Minyan at the Shul on a bi – weekly basis
• Create and run a program for the Shul teens on the High Holidays
• Create and run a program for Junior Shul teens (Grades 5-7) on the High Holidays
• Take an active part in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah program
• Attend Shul Bar/Bat Mitzvahs to introduce NCSY to the teens
• Give an NCSY sermon/update before Neila service on Yom Kipur
• Collaborate with the Shul to create engaging volunteer opportunities for the Shul teens
• Conduct NCSY Student Board meetings in the Shul on a weekly/bi–weekly basis

ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT

• Attend Staff Confrences
• Attend bi-annual infrastructure meetings and bi-weekly office update meeting on Monday
• Record all data for every event, chavrusah, and Shabbat meal on a weekly basis
• Work with regional team on marketing and recruitment of teens
• Work with logistics team in Toronto for relevant assistance
• Ensure overall success and synergy across partnerships, shuls and organizations
• Track and help set accountable financial and growth metrics, KPIs and oversight for staff and
advisors
• Model and help staff adopt a growth mindset approach towards fulfillment of professional/
educational goals
• Meet weekly with manager
• Attend all relevant staff meetings
