Your role
 
As news editor/presenter for Radio-Canada Toronto, you write, line up and present a combination of headlines and local/regional/national/international news on radio. Working in a highly integrated newsroom, you deliver news stories and news content to other platforms as required.
 
You demonstrate and maintain a high degree of organizational and presentation skills, coupled with the ability to focus and work on a quick turnaround basis to tight deadlines. Your work adheres to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices. Advice and guidance are available, but initiative and independent judgment are expected. Work can involve the coordination of the activities of others and close cooperation with the program unit is essential.
 
Key tasks:

  • Drawing on a variety of sources, assemble the items produced by Radio-Canada reporters on local, regional, national and international issues.
  • Prepare, line up and read the newscast on air.
  • Facilitate the flow and sharing of news among local/regional newsrooms and the national news desk.
  • Rewrite material as needed to tailor it to a local/regional audience.
  • As required, perform the following tasks:
  • Perform the technical functions required to self-operate the on-air presentation of newscasts and headlines.
  • Obtain and present on air a brief weather capsule for the broadcast area.
  • Using the Hotsheet or similar source material, promote upcoming. Radio-Canada network programming.
  • Perform live debriefs of reporters in the field and/or report on breaking news.
  • File the log for each newscast.
  • Edit news items sent in by reporters.
  • Load voice clips into the computer for insertion into the newscast.
  • Prepare the newscast for posting to one of the Corporation websites.
  • Perform any task of a reporter or editor.

  • We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • University undergraduate degree or equivalent with a minimum of four years’ journalistic experience and high level on-air presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and programming policies.
  • Comfortable reporting live.
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and in a compelling way that leads to a strong presentation.
  • Excellent speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of Southern Ontario affairs and Franco-Ontarian community issues.
  • Ability to work with a variety of teams. 
  • Critical thinking.
  • Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment.
  • Understanding of the public broadcaster’s role and responsibilities.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
