Job Description - NOC 72106 - Welders and related machine operators

Job Summary


Perform welding and related machine operations to fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components. Work with production teams to meet quality, productivity, and safety standards.

Main Duties


  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and work orders to determine welding specifications.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment and related machinery for MIG, TIG, and stick welding processes.
  • Prepare, cut, fit, and align metal components using hand and power tools prior to welding.
  • Perform welding, brazing, and joining operations to produce or repair parts according to specifications.
  • Inspect welds for quality, perform tests or visual inspections, and make adjustments to meet tolerances.
  • Maintain welding equipment and tooling, keep work area clean, and follow workplace safety and environmental procedures.


Requirements


  • Completion of a welding apprenticeship, technical certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and hands -on experience.
  • At least two years of practical welding experience using common processes such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and ability to work to specified tolerances.
  • Physical ability to perform welding tasks, including standing for extended periods, lifting moderate weights, and working in various positions or confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of gases, consumables, and personal protective equipment; ability to follow standard operating and safety procedures.

  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques
  • Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation
  • Precision measuring and layout (calipers, micrometers, squares)
  • Weld quality assessment and defect identification
  • Equipment setup, calibration, and basic maintenance
  • Strong safety awareness and correct use of personal protective equipment
