The Opportunity

The IWK Health Centre is seeking a leader in the advancement of women and gender diverse health care for the Regular Full-Time position of Nurse Practitioner. Reporting to the Manager, Adult Peri-operative, Ambulatory, Breast and Midwifery , the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner will be an expert practitioner and patient advocate in a program based care environment. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing leadership in nursing developing, promoting and maintaining an interdisciplinary collaboration in a team environment
  • Integrating the skills and knowledge of the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in a collaborative practice setting
  • Working in partnership with professional nurses and other disciplines to provide holistic patient/family centred care and advance the practice of nursing.
  • Participate in planning and implementing change related to clinical, educational and research issues in nursing.
  • Works in collaboration with interprofessional team to provide care within scope of practice
  • Provides clinical leadership related to advanced nursing practice issues, and scope includes the roles of a clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher.
  • Promotes liaisons among nursing and other health disciplines in the care of the patient and family in the Centre and in the community.
  • Dedication to continuing learning for self and team.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday; 75 hours bi-weekly.

Your Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner graduate program from a recognized program or in progress. 
  • Currently registered, or eligible to be registered, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) as a Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience and clinical competence in women and gender diverse health care nursing required.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and experience in women and gender diverse health care nursing required.
  • Demonstrated experience in general gynecology and urogynecology required 
  • Demonstrated organizational, conceptual, and leadership skills required.
  • Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, assertiveness and innovation required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform autonomously.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to constantly changing, unpredictable situations. Has the flexibility required to work with others and allow the role to evolve continually through time, always looking for ways to improve the delivery of care.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in working with others.
  • Commitment to family centred care.
  • Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
  • Competency in other languages will be considered an asset.
