A Day in the Life:

We are currently seeking to fill an existing vacancy on our team.

We are seeking a full-time Nursery Manager to lead our team at PRT Summerland in British Columbia. As a key part of the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry, you'll work with a focus on our people, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. You'll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of greenhouse and outdoor seedling production, including financial management, personnel development, customer relations, and ensuring site safety. Your leadership will be crucial in executing PRT's strategy, which is rooted in our core values of stewardship and safeguarding our people, customers, assets, and environment.

As the manager of PRT Summerland, you will lead a small but dedicated team in producing approximately 6 million seedlings annually on a 10-acre site. The core team consists of three full-time employees, who are supported by a flexible seasonal workforce. The team size fluctuates throughout the year, from around 11 people during the spring sow to a peak of up to 30 people during the busy harvest season from October to December. You will coach and lead this team to produce exceptional results and meet our production targets.

What will YOU be doing as a Nursery Manager?

• Ensure adherence to organizational health and safety programs through routine management, review, and follow-up procedures
• Develop and prioritize proposals for capital expenditures and projects
• Manage and supervise container seedling production
• Create production target plans
• Implement crop and work plans
• Identify and assess crop damage, losses and reliability issues
• Perform root-cause analysis with nursery personnel and develop solutions
• Keep neat and accurate records
• Manage labor force
• Identify training needs
• Mentor, coach, and train nursery personnel
• Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements
• Correspond with customers
• Follow and enforce safe work practices
• Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
• Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
• Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 (compensation based on experience)

What YOU bring to the table

We're looking for a dedicated leader with a passion for horticulture and sustainable practices:

• A bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in nursery operations, with a proven track record of leadership and team management.
• Working knowledge of pine seedling nursery/agricultural operations, equipment, irrigation, soil fertility, and pesticides.
• Strong team leadership and people management experience.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer-driven and oriented, with a strong work ethic and dedication to safety and excellence.
