Job Description - Official Languages Coordinator (Summer Student) - Closes Friday, May 10, 2024

The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum is just a block away from the southern terminus of the Welland Ship Canal in the Niagara Region. We are looking for anOfficial Languages Coordinator to transcribe the audio from French speaking seniors to include in the Museum’s oral history file. Details of the senior’s life, including the experiences they have had in Port Colborne, as well as questions designed to reveal their aspirations and sensibilities are included. This position will transcribe the interview, edit and create a booklet with a photograph of each participants. The oral histories will be stored in the Research Room as a lasting legacy to the citizens of Port Colborne and used during festivities for the Museum’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations in 2025.

The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a history, languages, museum studies or other applicable program. You are Bilingual and can speak French and English.You are knowledgeable and interested in the City of Port Colborne and have outstanding communication skills (French and English) and organizational skills. You are self-motivated and able to work independently and with a group. You have basic knowledge of computer systems including word processing.

This is a temporary position funded through Canada Summer Jobs, as such all requirements must be met to be eligible for this program.

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of ageat the beginningof the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Actfor the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

The position will last approximately 10 weeks and will be paid at a rate of $17.00 per hour, working 35 hours per week.
