Job Description

Reporting directly to the Director of Community Services, the Operations Manager provides strategic leadership to Community Services staff and manages the City of Merritt’s facilities.

This position champions a respectful, inclusive, and caring workplace culture that aligns with the City’s values. This position ensures all administrative and operational policies and procedures, as well as collective agreements, are applied consistently by all Community Services staff, with a focus on superior customer service.

Supervising multi-disciplinary teams of staff, the Operations Manager will also ensure the regulatory training of all Community Services staff. Managing the budget for all building mechanical needs (Capital and Maintenance), planning for and overseeing all maintenance activities and repairs, and ensuring that work is completed correctly, on time, and within budget. Ensuring systems of all inventory and equipment are in place and functioning.

The Operations Manager will be accountable for managing the Maintenance and Arena employees and their daily activities while ensuring and creating efficiency in the Maintenance and Arena Departments. The incumbent will report to the Director of Community Services on budget maintenance, personnel management, safety and health related incidents, and facility project management.

Prioritizing of maintenance requests, overseeing third party contractors/vendors, managing automated building systems, and overseeing the safety and security of facilities, including alarms monitoring and response, are responsibilities of the Operations Manager. The incumbent is also responsible for all operations, safety, and efficiency of Nicola Valley Memorial Arena (NVMA) ammonia, and NVM mechanical plants.

Qualifications

  • University degree or diploma in Engineering or a related Mechanical Technology.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance and operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and federal statutes and regulations.
  • Highly proficient with technology, MS Office, and related databases systems.

Additional Information

This is an exempt position with a salary starting at $75,000 per year (37.5 hours per week).In addition to competitive salaries,the City of Merritt offers a comprehensive well-being benefits, an employee and family assistance plan (EAP)and exclusive perks.
