A well-established global steel manufacturer is seeking an Operations Shift Supervisor to join its Heat Treatment division in Sault Ste. Marie.
This is a hands-on leadership position within a 24/7 industrial environment. The successful candidate will oversee production employees during their assigned shift, ensure safety and quality compliance, and drive operational performance across multiple production processes.
This role offers strong long-term growth potential, with succession planning in place for future leadership advancement within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct supervision to production employees during assigned shift.
Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor to support engagement, accountability, and operational efficiency.
Coordinate work assignments and adjust resources to meet changing production demands.
Address operational challenges in real time through practical problem-solving.
Promote and enforce workplace health and safety standards.
Conduct regular safety observations and participate in incident investigations.
Ensure adherence to environmental and risk management requirements.
Support continuous improvement of safe work practices.
Monitor shift-level production metrics including output, utilization, downtime, and quality performance.
Ensure production schedules are achieved in line with customer specifications and internal standards.
Identify process inefficiencies and contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
Support basic preventive maintenance coordination during shift.
Apply collective agreement guidelines in day-to-day leadership activities.
Support attendance management, payroll coordination, and performance evaluations.
Coach and develop employees to build capability and strengthen team performance.
Foster open communication and a culture of accountability.

Technical diploma or degree
10+ years of manufacturing experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.
Minimum 3–5 years supervisory experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Experience working within a unionized environment.
Strong understanding of Canadian manufacturing safety practices.
Ability to work 12-hour rotational shifts (days and nights).
Experience in steel processing, heat treatment, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
Familiarity with production KPI tracking and continuous improvement practices.
Exposure to maintenance coordination within a production setting.
SAP or ERP system experience.
