Reporting to the Manager Nursing Resource Program, the Operations Specialist, Nursing Resource Program (Specialist) is responsible for contributing to the establishment of a sustainable, effective, and high value Nursing Resource Program which meets the needs of the Department with a supply of temporary and surge capacity nurses who are competent and ready to practice in all communities. The Specialist also supports the Nursing Resource Program Manager to make informed decisions related to the operations of the Nursing Resource Program. 

Main responsibilities for the Specialist include: 

• Developing a sufficient pool of qualified Locum Nurses through; 

  • Building networks to find qualified Nursing Locum candidates for the Program; 

  • Maintaining regular contact with possible program candidates; 

  • Posting advertisements in strategic locations (i.e. professional organization websites) to attract skilled talent; 

  • Using professional networking sites to identify and source nursing talent.

• Coordinating and participating in the two-level screening and interview process to determine suitability of potential nurse candidates for the Nursing Resource Program; 

• Verifying degrees, certifications and qualifications, and reviewing criminal record checks by developing and maintaining a territorial casual staffing pool list and nursing profile for locum nurses;

• Working directly with Directors and Executive Directors to track staffing levels in each health centre and identify requirements for Locum and Agency Nurses, projected over the coming six months;

• Provides information to potential candidates regarding the Nursing Resource Program, as well as the logistics and realities of living and working in Nunavut;
• Develops and maintains good working relationships with other agencies, the community, colleagues and supervisors.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized:

• Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, 

• Two (2) years of related work experience in the Human Resources field, such as recruitment or staffing;

• Experience working in health care or health care resources is an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
