TerrAvion has an opening for an engineer or experienced technician who can help us keep our ever-growing worldwide operations running smoothly. You will be joining the team that manages the flight operations we use to collect data for our aerial imagery product. We currently operate in three time zones on two continents with immediate plans for further expansion. We are Y Combinator alumni, venture-backed, and our airborne collection service is changing the way farmers work.
Responsibilities:
Maintain deployed collection systems, including hardware, cable harnesses, and software
Inspect, repair, and replace components on deployed systems as needed
Deploy software updates to deployed systems (including OS, libraries, and collection software)
Support Operations by diagnosing and solving routine system problems as they arise
Determine when problems need to be addressed by Engineering
Occasionally test new features and systems during flight operations
Requirements:
Experience troubleshooting computer and other electrical systems in the field
Experience maintaining hardware with emphasis on quality control (e.g., must be able to find cable problems and repair them, demonstrating an understanding of strain relief)
Experience with Linux systems
Detail-oriented (enjoy making sure equipment is clean, organized, and in good working order)
Flexible and can-do attitude in the face of ambiguity (able to work with contractors to get systems working when problems are mysterious and deadlines are real)
Willingness to fly with our systems in small airplanes as needed
Ability to commute to Dublin, CA (our office is a 10 minute walk from the West Dublin BART)
Ability to travel occasionally to maintain our deployed systems (0-10% travel)
Bonus Attributes:
Experience as a field service representative for a complex electromechanical system
Experience soldering surface mount, through-hole, and cable harness/connector components
Experience with basic shop machines (bandsaw, drill press, mill)
Experience preparing technical documentation and manuals
Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash) and programming languages (C, Java)
Interest or experience in general aviation and farming
