About Us



The Workers’ Compensation Appeals Tribunal is an independent tribunal which hears and decides appeals from final decisions of the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB).  The Tribunal is governed by the Workers’ Compensation Act of Nova Scotia and is the final level of appeal within the workers’ compensation system.

 


About Our Opportunity



You are responsible for providing a broad range of clerical support services to the Tribunal and responsible for the administration of a high volume of appeals during various stages of the appeal process. 



This position reports to the Supervisor, Office Services.


 


Primary Accountabilities



Some of your responsibilities will include: 

 



  • Assist in the scheduling of hearings, conference calls, monitoring deadlines and requests for additional information

  • Transcribing and creating a variety of documents including appeal decisions and correspondence

  • Maintaining an established filing and case management system to ensure accuracy of appeal information

  • Photocopying claim file documents

  • Contacting appeal participants, as required

  • Responding to and directing incoming calls, e-mails, and inquiries

  • Providing front desk and telephone reception relief

     


Qualifications and Experience



As the successful candidate, you will have four years of related clerical/administrative assistant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Exposure to a legal environment is considered an asset. 



For this position, your competency and experience in a computerized environment with proficient keyboarding, dictation transcription experience and a working knowledge of case management systems is required. You must demonstrate skill and competency in computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and calendars).  You are skilled at managing electronic and hard copy filing systems. You are self-motivated, detail-oriented and effective at working independently under minimal supervision to prioritize work demands and meet deadlines. A high degree of initiative, excellent organization and communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential. 



The incumbent will maintain effective working relationships and handle confidential information in a discreet and tactful manner, applying Tribunal policies and procedures as necessary.



Your ability to effectively interact with the public in a sometimes-challenging environment is important to your success in this role. 



We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.


 


Equivalency



An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:

 



  • A two-year certificate/diploma plus two years of related experience

  • A one-year certificate/diploma plus three years of related experience

Pay Grade:  CL 18  


Salary Range:  $1,848.39 - $2,068.11 Bi-Weekly
