Position Summary


 


Under the direction of the Director of Children and Families, the Outreach Worker will work with First Nations women, girls, and 2 Spirit individuals who are at risk of violence, exploitation, homelessness or systemic barriers. The Outreach Worker will provide trauma-informed, culturally appropriate services and support to assist those impacted on their journey by ensuring their safety and security and helping to restore identity, place and belonging.



Key Responsibilities



  • Establish trusting, respectful relationships with individuals through outreach in the community.

  • Assist with crisis intervention, including safety planning and accessing emergency supports.

  • Build relationships with service providers to assess needs and provide support.

  • Work with the Streams of Service and assist with finding access to social services, including housing, employment, healthcare, and education.

  • Develop and implement culturally relevant outreach programs and workshops.

  • Collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and service providers.

  • Assist with navigating programs, attending appointments, and completing forms or applications.

  • Organize community events to promote awareness and engagement.

  • Provide crisis intervention and support for individuals facing challenges.


  • Assist in the distribution and implementation of the TELUS Mobility for Good program, ensuring Indigenous women at risk receive access to free smartphones and wireless services for safety and connectivity.

  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and reports on outreach activities and client progress.

  • If approved, attend meetings/workshops and provide reports and statistics on service delivery as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications


Education & Experience



  • Diploma or degree in social work, community development, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Strong experience with crisis intervention techniques, and other mental health interventions.

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous cultures.

  • Excellent verbal and written, interpersonal skills and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Familiarity with government programs, social services, and Indigenous rights.

  • Be able to follow office practices, procedures, and confidentiality.

  • Valid Manitoba class 5 driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

  • Proficiency in Indigenous languages is an asset.

  • Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Clear Adult and Child Abuse Checks.
