Since 1954, CCI Ottawa has been dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and inclusive city where immigrants and refugees are supported, connected, and empowered. We are a full service settlement agency with multiple departments that offer a wide range of programs and services. Using a client-centred approach, we offer targeted case management. We do needs assessments, support with official documents and paperwork, information and orientation sessions, crisis counselling, housing assistance, translation, language classes, and help navigating public services and agencies such as healthcare, the CRA, Service Ontario, and many others. In addition we offer programs that help newcomers become socially and economically connected, whether through sports, recreation, cultural activities, or job search and networking support. CCI also offers these services in a youth specific context. Finally, CCI Ottawa operates 4 Transitional Housing Sites. Each site provides shelter, food, and wrap around services to support clients as they move into permanent accommodations.



JOB SUMMARY 


The overnight site supervisor will oversee daily operations, supervise staff, ensure client safety and well being, and manage resources. The role requires excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.



This position reports to: Program Manager


Employment status: Full-time, until March 31, 2026 


Hours- 7pm to 7am & 7am to 7pm shifts- 3 to 4 days a week 


Hourly rate: $34.79

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Under the direction of the Site Manager, the site supervisor will:



  • Supervise, train and mentor frontline staff.

  • Ensure the facility runs smoothly, including managing the intake process for new residents, overseeing program activities, and maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe environment.

  • Provide the first response to crises, de-escalate conflicts, and ensure all safety and security protocols (e.g., fire safety, non-violent crisis intervention) are followed. This includes liaising with emergency services when necessary.

  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of all interior and exterior areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.

  • Complete all required incident reports before end of shift.

  • Resolve minor staff conflicts and escalate concerns appropriately.

  • Ensure clients follow shelter rules while maintaining dignity and respect.

  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards.

  • Model professional, compassionate behavior toward clients and coworkers.

  • Maintain awareness of trauma-informed care, harm reduction practices, and cultural sensitivity.



QUALIFICATIONS
(Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills)



  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field required.

  • 1–3 years of experience in homeless services, shelter work, social services, security, or related community support roles.

  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, or trauma.

  • Supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills; ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution abilities.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation.

  • Ability to manage a shelter environment independently during overnight hours.

  • Fluency in verbal and written English is essential. Fluency in other languages an asset.
