NOTE:  This is a permanent full-time position: 38.75 hours per week (five days a week from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM).



    
SCOPE
Reporting to the Portfolio Supervisor, the incumbent prepares surfaces to be painted, paints, varnishes, and stains. They mix dyes, paint, and other substances that are used on interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.


 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Prepare and apply base and finishing coats on various surfaces (walls, ceilings, architectural elements) and on various compositions (metal, wood, and plaster).
•    Prepare and mix paint, dyes and other protective substances; blend colors.
•    Use detergents for the cleaning of surfaces to be painted.
•    Repair cracks or other defects of this nature on surfaces; prepare and apply putty or plaster on surfaces.
•    Remove coatings with the aid of remover, scraper, hot iron, torch, or other appropriate tools or substances.
•    Paint with paint-gun, roller, or brush; apply stains, dyes, or other appropriate substances.
•    Verify and inspect assigned areas.
•    Complete forms and routine reports using a computer.
•    Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.


 


QUALIFICATIONS
•    Vocational Studies Diploma (DEP) in Building Painting, with two years of relevant work experience.
•    Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken English and French.
•    Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
•    Ability to work at heights.
•    Will require use of respiratory protection and enrollment in the University’s Respiratory Protection Program.
•    Enrollment in the University’s Hearing Conservation Program will be required.
•    Have physical ability to frequently lift/carry/move without assistance up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and occasionally lift/carry/move with assistance up to and above 45 kg (100 lbs.).
