Summary of Position


Abalone is a privately owned company with over 40 years specializing in Industrial and Commercial civil construction. We offer construction services in a variety of markets including Infrastructure, Roadbuilding, and Land Development.


Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Administrator is directly responsible for performing weekly and biweekly payroll for the field and office employees in a timely manner.



Role and Responsibilities


Process new hire/rehires, changes, and terminations (including ROE processing) in the payroll system.


Complete full cycle bi-weekly and weekly payroll including expense reimbursement to all staff and craft accurately and in compliance with all legislation by established deadlines.


Support Human Resources in administering the benefits and RRSP program


Liaise with project managers regarding staff.


Perform meticulous and accurate data entry and calculations.


Create invoices and issue remittance cheques for unions, benefit providers and garnishment.


Handle company vehicle tickets and apply appropriate deductions.


Compile payroll information summaries and reports.


Implement system updates regarding legislation, benefits and union rate changes.


Help maintain employees’ files and payroll records


Protect and maintain confidentiality of employees’ personal information.


Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.


Balance payroll to government and benefit records.


Prepare for Yearend and T4 processing.


Resolve discrepancies between payroll records and general ledger accounts.


Provide payroll information to internal customers, government, and benefit providers by answering questions and requests.


Protect company and employees’ interest by providing or searching for best practices.


Remitting payroll taxes and government reporting.


 


Qualifications, Training and Education


Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position.


Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is required.


Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, or a related field is an asset.


Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).


Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.


Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).


Able to handle highly confidential information.


Adhere to tight deadlines.



Working Conditions


This position will require occasional physically demanding work in different positions (kneeling, standing, lifting, etc.), as well as long periods of sitting/typing while performing office & computer related tasks.
