Job Description - Payroll and Compensation Technician

Make an impact with our Assurance & Accounting team as a Payroll and Compensation Technician. This diverse team of professionals are dedicated to exceeding clients’ unique needs within a rapidly evolving business and financial reporting landscape. As a trusted advisor, you’ll provide comprehensive, tailored financial information that enables clients to make informed decisions with confidence.

Responsibilities 



  • Process, review, and audit payroll transactions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of pay.

  • Prepare and maintain government remittances and filings (source deductions, benefits, year‑end reporting, etc.).

  • Support compensation activities including earnings calculations, adjustments, premiums, and taxable benefits.

  • Maintain payroll records and ensure accurate data entry related to hires, terminations, job changes, leaves, and benefits.

  • Reconcile payroll‑related general ledger accounts, including payroll accruals, vacation, benefits, source deductions, and bank reconciliations.

  • Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of year‑end forms (T4, RL‑1, T4A, etc.).

  • Investigate discrepancies, identify payroll or compensation issues, and work with managers to recommend and implement solutions.

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external partners to ensure consistent and compliant payroll and compensation practices.

  • Respond to government inquiries and support audits by providing accurate documentation and explanations.

  • Assist with system uploads, data validation, and ongoing payroll process improvements.

  • Maintain flexibility to travel as needed for training, audits, or support.


 


Skills and Experience 



  • Certificate or diploma in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field (a PCP certification is considered an asset).

  • 2 +  years of experience in payroll, accounting, or compensation.

  • Experience preparing year‑end payroll forms (T4/T4A, RL‑1/RL‑2) and knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting and payroll principles, including reconciliations and payroll compliance.

  • Experience with payroll, HRIS, or accounting software is considered an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.

  • Bilinguals is mandatory
